Gradient reduction and strava segments

Does gradient reduction give you an advantage leading to better times on Veloreality Strava segments. I find some reduction helps better match my bikes gearing (using Tacx Bushido) and I presume your wattage/effort is the same - just in a different gear?

No advantage other then it acts as if your bike has some extra gears so you do not bust your legs
